Understanding the Challenges New Teachers Face

Not many careers require a survival guide before the first day. Teaching, however is different. Since COVID-19, over 300,000 teachers have left the profession. Despite this, choosing to enter the field shows a deep commitment and belief in the importance of education. While college courses and preparation programs cover pedagogy, theory, and practice, they often overlook the day-to-day realities teachers face. To bridge this gap, The New Teachers’ Survival Guide was created to help new educators be proactive and prepared for their first years in school.

Collaboration with Seasoned Educators

I developed this survival guide in collaboration with seasoned educators. Their collective wisdom and practical tips provide a comprehensive cushion for new teachers, equipping them to handle whatever comes their way.

Covered in the Guide

The New Teachers’ Survival Guide covers essential areas such as choosing the right school, assessing your administration, avoiding common mistakes, and setting great boundaries. Knowing what to expect ahead of time will make your transition smoother in an environment that is both exciting and very fast-paced.

Teaching can be sustainable, embedded with personal learning, and filled with joy. It won’t always be, though. It will hard, and you will have days you want to quit. You might leave, miss it, and find yourself back. Knowing what to expect will give you power to survive, thrive, and build a long lasting, happy career. All while continuing to be the safe place that students spend their days, growing into the learners we want them to be.
